INCLINE VILLAGE, NV – September 11, 2014 – Data visualization software that goes “beyond the spreadsheet” and works through a web browser has become very popular.  But Frontline Systems’ new, free XLMiner Data Visualization App gives users of Office 365 Excel Online an easy way to visualize their data inside their spreadsheet – and in their web browser, as well as their desktop or laptop.

“We’ve taken the data visualization features of our XLMiner data mining software for desktop Excel, and made them freely accessible through Excel Online,” said Daniel Fylstra, Frontline’s President and CEO.  “This is part of our move to offer a full suite of advanced analytics tools on the Web.”

Beyond Conventional Charts for Effective Data Visualization

The XLMiner DataViz App includes conventional bar charts and line charts, histograms and box plots, but it goes further to enable users to easily, interactively explore their data.  For example, on a scatter plot users can quickly select variables for the horizontal or vertical axis, Color By or Size By other variables, and apply filters to any variable.  To visualize relationships among different variables in a larger dataset, the XLMiner DataViz App offers scatterplot matrix charts and parallel coordinates charts, where points can also be Colored By categorical variables.

Visualizes Spreadsheet, Table, Pivot Table and Database Data

The XLMiner DataViz App accepts and plots data in several forms, from a simple worksheet cell range, to an Excel ‘table’ with recognized column names, to an Excel Pivot Table.  Since Pivot Tables can link to and summarize data from Excel’s “spreadsheet data model” – the Power Pivot  based in-memory, multi-dimensional database – this means that the XLMiner DataViz App can be used to visualize up to millions of rows of data, in summarized form.

Works with Microsoft Power BI to Refresh and Visualize Latest Updates

Using Office 365 with Microsoft’s Power BI extension, users can easily upload their Power Pivot-based Excel workbooks to the cloud, share their spreadsheet-based reports, and even refresh their data from both cloud-based and on-premise databases.  With the XLMiner Data Visualization App, users can see “refreshed” visualizations of this data.  And with Frontline’s Solver App and Premium Solver App, they can even re-solve an optimization model in the cloud, for new optimal decisions based on their latest operating data.

Works with On-Premise SharePoint 2013 Servers

Like other Apps for Office, the XLMiner Data Visualization App works in desktop Excel 2013 and the Excel Web App included in SharePoint 2013, as well as Office 365 Excel Online.  Companies who aren’t yet comfortable with cloud-based solutions can get the same results with an om-premise solution.
